Idea/Objective/Challenge

Poznan was one of the 4 Polish cities hosting the Football World Cup. Two years prior to the World Cup, Poznan was the first city to open a stadium, being one of the most modern, safest and most environmentally friendly sports facilities of ELITE class in Europe. On that account, the City Hall in cooperation with Citybell Consulting organised an all-Poland press conference in Warsaw at the Olympic Centre in order to inform the public through opinion-building information, economic and sports media about such a success. The stadium opening ceremony was honoured by a concert given by Sting.

The conference participants included, among others: Ryszard Grobelny, President of the City of Poznan; Michał Prymas, Representative of Poznan Euro 2012; Adam Giersz, Minister of Sports and Tourism; Marcin Hera, President of PL.2012 company and Marcin Kydryński, a music journalist.

Realisation/Results

When implementing the venture, our main aim was to support Poznan’s image as a successful city, building the awareness of the event importance among the invited media representatives, preparing a suitable set of information materials and inviting the national economic, social and sports media journalists to the conference as well as providing assistance during the entire event.

62 media representatives took part in the conference, including:

– 11 television stations (TVP 1, TVP Sport, Wiadomości TVP, Panorama, Polsat, Polsat News, Polsat Sport, TVN CNBC, Sport, Cyfra Sport, Orange Sport TV, Superstacja TV (live broadcast), Onet.tv

– 10 radio stations (Polskie Radio, Polskie Radio Trójka, Polskie Radio Euro, editorial offices abroad for PR, RMF FM, Radio PIN, IAR, Radio Plus, Radio Eska, Radio Emaus)

– 41 press titles and on-line editors, including major social and economic media (Gazeta Wyborcza, Życie Warszawy/Rzeczpospolita, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Polska The Times, Super Express, Polityka, PAP, Onet.pl, Interia.pl)

The information about opening the first Euro 2012 stadium in Poznan appeared in the most important national media. Publications about Poznan and interviews with the President of Poznan appeared in all major television news programmes during prime time. Moreover, the media stressed that this is one of the most modern stadiums in Europe and that Poznan was the first to have commissioned a completed stadium for Euro 2012. Information about Poznan and about the Poznan stadium were later used by the media as a benchmark for the evaluation of the progress of work on the construction of stadiums performed by the remaining cities playing host to Euro 2012.
